Laugh or Cry? The Perennial Question...

The commies used to have a saying, "No Enemies to The Left." Basically, the idea was that no matter what sort of objectively awful atrocity someone committed, if they were for Labor instead of Capital, then you oughtn't criticize them. Joseph Stalin, for instance, was off-limits. And so came the gulags.

The State has a similar motto: No enemies in the public schools. No matter how badly the bureaucracy does at enlightening our children or instructing our children or, heck, even at graduating our children, the system must be defended.

So today we get this brilliant dichotomy: The Opinion Page headline says, "
School smoking ban is the least lawmakers can do."

But on the News page it says this:

Student slashed in White Knoll fight

Uniformed police officers will be at White Knoll High School today after a violent fight Tuesday that hospitalized one student with a slashed neck authorities say was caused by a razor blade.
So, contra La Socialista, I'm thinking that the very least that the Government-Run Holding Cells public schools could do is to prevent teachers from raping students
or, if that's too hard, at least stop kids from getting slashed in the neck.

But maybe fighting against cigarette breaks is more important.

Acccording to Brad and Cindi and the rest of the Druids we ought to be proud of our public schools! P-
SAT scores have risen one three hundredth of a point in four years or whatever their ridiculous statistic is. This of course is cause for rejoicing in Brad and Cindis' world, student rapes by teachers and neck slashings notwithstanding. Dave

By the way...a smoking ban!?! In the dens of iniquity we like to call our public schools? Come ON! Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic! This kind of superfluity and legerdemain are simply figleaves intended to cover the intellectual vacancy of those who still believe in and attempt to defend the failure that is public ed in SC. Go ahead: Implement Zero Tolerance policies against plastic butter knives so kids can't spread jam on their crackers. Eliminate Coke, Pepsi and snack foods from vending machines. Ban smoking. Put video cameras on schoolbuses so we can see the thugs beat up innocent kids who don't have any choice. Do enough arm-waving and straining at gnats, and maybe no one will notice as Educrats look the other way when kids are sexually assaulted by teachers and thug criminal students. Then of course, they essentially fix the game so that there can be NO competition whatsoever. NONE. And force parents to send their loved ones into these hell-holes and tell them they'll get nothing but higher taxes and like it. Does this sound like a rational and successful business model to you? WVOC (AM560) reported this morning that Sheriff James Metts had met with "leadership" at Richland School District One to discuss ways to restore some semblance of order to schools in district one. One of the things discussed, according to WVOC, was the installation of metal detectors at schools. That's right, whether your little thug is carrying a .38 Special or your little angel is carrying the key to his gym locker, it's very possible that he's going to soon have to walk through a metal detector to enter the "hallowed halls" of learning. There was no comment about what effect the detectors might have on the already poisoned atmosphere at these schools. Isn't this just grand? Aren't the "NO-CHOICE NO-HOW" folks who insist that your kids must attend these horrible places just great? How would YOU feel if you were 15 years old and were forced to go somewhere everyday where you had to go through metal detectors to get in and you knew chances were good that you wouldn't get home that night in one piece? Thanks Brad and Cindi for Believing the unbelievable, defending the indefensible in support of the unsupportable. Dave
