Sunrise, Sunset

If it's Thursday, The State must be asking for the creation of a new bureaucracy.

Brad and the other Druids never support anything that would limit or decrease the size and scope of government, so even though that's what this new "panel" sounds like it would do, it certainly won't. And Brad knows it. So what could the real purpose of this new panel be? I am presuming that it will NOT have the power to direct or force schools to actually make the cuts and undertake the consolidations it recommends. Look, if neither the Governor nor the Legislature have been able to do make colleges do that heretofore, (when such cuts and consolidations were so clearly warranted), a new bogus panel certainly won't either. Again Brad and the crew know this, so ~ again ~ what could the real purpose of the panel be? Well, here are some thoughts...first, it gives the illusion of progress towards the elimination of fat and redundancy in education, when no real progress has been made. Voters who are too busy to track this closely just "think" something has been done, when nothing actually has. Second, the panel grows government by adding a layer of bureaucracy and staff that didn't exist before. Third, the panel takes pressure to cut and consolidate off of college administrators and managers, who can then concentrate on pursuing whatever self-serving goals for expansion each independent institution may have. In short, this panel protects the status quo, pure and simple. For Brad, this must be the ideal scheme: Give the masses the appearance of progress while growing government and protecting beloved his public education. Dave

oops...should read "his beloved" rather than "beloved his" in the last line above.
